How to increase skill level in Battlefield Bad company 2?

What is skill level in bfbc 2 exactly?All my friends have skill level 20+ but I am on 0.I dont know what it is and how to increase it.How to increase skill level in Battlefield Bad company 2?
If you are used to playing fast paced games like Call of Duty, Bad Company 2 can be a shock as it is quite a bit slower, and more realistic. Remember these pointers, and you should do a little better;

* Fire in bursts unless using a LMG (medic gun- accuracy actually increases with sustained fire)

* Spot (Q on the PC, Select button on PS3). A lot. You can get loads of points just by spotting for your team.

* Heal, revive, replenish ammo and repair vehicles. This requires no skill, and can rake in points.

* You might find it useful to play as an engineer to begin with. Their primary weapon (SMG) isn't particularly powerful, but the RPG is (and does not require much skill to use). Get around the sides or to the back of tanks, where 2-3 shots are normally enough to destroy it (+100 points) and kill any inhabitants (some tanks can house 4 men- up to +200 points, and any bonuses will be on top of that)How to increase skill level in Battlefield Bad company 2?
I think you are seeing the rank. You increase rank by getting kills or by resupplying/ healing/ spotting. If you are just starting, I recommend using the assault class. Always join a squad. Make sure you hide always. Don't rush into a battle without teammates. If someone is too far away to hit them, spot them and you'll get some pts for the kill. Don't stand still in the open. Always run along walls. It just takes a lot of practice to get good at the game. Even the best players usually only have a 2:1 Kill to death ratio, so don't get discouraged if you die a lot at first.
